Czechia “Špalíček” / “Czech Year”

“Czech Year” (“Spalicek”), the first film shot using the stop-motion technique by the world-famous Czech illustrator and filmmaker Jiří Trnka, is known as one of the best films made in this field in the world. Trnka, who is also called the Walt Disney of Eastern Europe and whose career rose under the influence of his mentor, the famous Czech puppeteer Josef Skupa, founded his own animation studio after World War II and started making films. After “The Year of the Czech” in 1947, which won an award in the animation category at the Venice Film Festival, he shot 5 more feature films and many short films, and passed away in 1969 at an early age.
